Ethiopian Construction Design and Supervision Works Corporation (ECDSW Co.) is transforming and diversifying from the current consultancy business operations. Taking advantage of the existing ECDSW Co.’s strength and maximizing on the newly emerging external opportunities that are being prevalent with the shifts in Ethiopian Economic Policy – the Corporation is aiming to play a significant role to the success of the Ethiopian Construction Industry -by creating a vibrant business institution that will not only fill the gap that is in the current construction industry, but also replace the need for having international construction companies that are dominating the government mega scale projects.

To this, the Corporation is emerging as an Engineering and Investment Group. The proposed name of the Group is ‘’Ethiopian Engineering and Investment Group (EEIG)’’. The Group will comprise of three main operational business units i.e., Consultancy, Construction and Investment.

EEIG-Construction business unit key activities are high-end complex construction projects, predominately high-rise commercial and residential buildings, real-estate; infrastructure (roads, railways and airports) & water and energy sector construction. EEIG-Construction alone would grow into a conglomerate of several business units including Piling, underground and foundation Works, Fit-Out, Energy (Solar Solutions), Electro- Mechanical Solution, Facility Management, Landscape and Construction Materials Production.

EEIG Construction is launched with the vision of being the best construction company in Ethiopia with a strategy of Timeously executing high-end complex projects, by utilizing proactive management skills as a Design and Build Contractor in order to achieve an optimum return and aspiring to be a competitive and preferred choice that can replace the current dependence on international contractors and deliver excellence. EEIG Construction will uphold Courage, Integrity, Reliability, Value for its People and Innovation as its core values.   

Scope:

To control, direct and coordinate all members of the project team, to ensure that all aspects (i.e., production, planning, costing, commercial, safety and quality aspects) of the infrastructure projects (i.e., construction of roads and airfields) are successfully completed.

  • Responsibilities: Ensure the preparation and implementation of the project quality plan at project commencement
  • Organize, direct, lead, coordinate and motivate the project team members –i.e., Construction Managers, Design Managers, Snr Engineers etc.
  • Plan and establish the work breakdown structure and budget in accordance with the project estimate for cost control 
  • Interpret the construction program and translate in to labour, plant and material resources timeously (look ahead program, meeting with engineers, progress reports etc)
  • Project operations – accurate planning and execution by ensuring quality. Ensures the operations are effective by providing leadership for the operational function.
  • Ensure works are carried out according to the engineering drawings – with a quality exceeding client’s expectation.
  • Ensure safe work environment and employee compliance to safety regulations.  
  • Plays a significant role in long term planning, including an initiative geared towards operational excellence
  • Receives and analyses scopes and specifications for works to be performed by EEIG Construction. Working with the managers to agree on the basis for the execution and subcontracting to optimize a cost-effective basis for the project
  • Safe guard and promote EEIG Construction’s interest when dealing with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Assist all project teams with the technical evaluation of the Engineer’s requirements, advising in particular upon any contractual/commercial aspects raised therein.
  • Attends negotiation meetings, summarizes results and obtains appropriate confirmation
  • Prepares and coordinates the execution of the final contract agreement documentation in an expeditious manner 
  • Reviews all project documentations/correspondence to identify any contractual /commercial implications which may impact adversely upon the company’s interest.
  • Monitors and processes commercial and contractual aspects pertaining to variations/ change orders required by the consultants and prepares appropriate submissions.
  • Studies and evaluates site instructions made by the consultant in the light of contractual obligations and in conjunction with the technical input from the project team. Prepares an appropriate strategy for justifications for the cost/schedule impact of such claims
  • Monitor the performance of subcontractors and prepare routine management reports on subcontract progress.
  • Ensures that specific project’s activities are controlled within the approved budget, identifies any deficiencies and conducts proper analysis and recommend solutions.

Job Requirements: 

  • B.Sc. /Diploma in Civil /Building Engineering or related fields.

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years proven work experience as a Project Director, Project manager, Project Manager, Construction manager or similar role in the construction of roads, railways, bridges and airfield projects.
  • The ideal candidate shall have an international experience/or worked with international companies here in Ethiopia – and have a proven track record of the successful execution and management of infrastructure projects.
