Contract Duration :  Definite Period 

Job Purpose;

The overall purpose of the job is to support the implementation of agriculture and livelihood activities at Pugnido refugee camp and God woreda hosting communities and provide a day to day technical support to targeted beneficiaries in the refugee camp and surrounding host communities. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities;

1. Project Planning and Implementation

  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals as requested
  • Introduce and promote techniques on crop production such as backyard gardening, vegetables, fruits production and cereal production as well as livestock production for refugee households and host communities,
  • Implement modalities of backyard gardening, vegetables, fruits and cereal and livestock production for target HHs
  • Ensure the timely implementation of planned agricultural activities in the refugee camp and the surrounding host communities
  • Facilitate the supply of goods and inputs for the target groups
  • Build the capacity of target HHs and host communities through training and exposure visits
  • Educate the refugees and host community households on the utilization of vegetables for food and nutrition security
  • Establish and maintain demonstration sites on backyard gardening, vegetables and fruits and cereal production in order to demonstrate the target households.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Livelihoods Project Manager.

 2. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning

  • Monitor and provide proper extension advise for refugees and host community households to ensure they use the required agronomic practices
  • Closely supervise and follow up the day to day activities of different livelihoods components in refugees and host kebeles
  • Facilitate and organize experience sharing among best performing and low performing households
  • Document/draw best practices of agronomic activities for future programming
  • Ensure that learning are captured and replicated

3. Reporting

  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarter and annual reports

4. Coordination and Networking

  • Work closely with the Concern nutrition team at all-time Emergency Response
  • Work closely with ARRA, UNHCR and Government sectors offices on livelihood interventions.

Job Requirements

Persons Specifications 

  • BSc Degree in Agriculture (Plant Science, Crop science, Animal and Livestock production) or other Agriculture relevant fields with minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience respectively.
  • Minimum of two years NGO Experience
  • Experience in Nutrition sensitive agriculture activities
  • Familiarity with new techniques on crop production, backyard gardening or livestock production, fishing and apiculture /or beekeeping.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Clear understanding and experience of working with refugee context and host communities
  • Experience of providing training and capacity building to beneficiaries and government staffs
  • Excellent communication skills; able to work as part of a team and establish relationships with field offices.
  • Computer Literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power-point and other statistical packages

Desired:

  • Knowledge of Nuer/or Agnuak languages is an advantage and will be an asset to communicate with people at different levels in the targeted community.
  • Experience in community mobilization activities
  • Experience working in the refugee’s camp context and emergency.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in facilitating training
