Job summary

The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) seeks to appoint a Local Project Coordinator under the collaborative research project titled Global Foundational Analysis to Close Gender Profitability Gap (GPG). It is a collaborative research project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and undertaken by Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) from Ethiopia, New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) from United Arab Emirates, Vassar College from The United States, and College of Development Studies (CoDS) of Addis Ababa University (AAU) from Ethiopia. This project will achieve four primary goals: 1) Improve understanding of the global business and policy environment for women owned enterprises; 2) Increase the knowledge of facts, trends and predictors of the gender profit gap at the global level; 3) Synthesize existing research and evidence on gender gaps in entrepreneurship and enterprise performance; and 4) Deeply explore the gender profitability gap, the link between gender and economic development, and women economic empowerment (WEE) in Ethiopia. The Project Coordinator is expected to coordinate activities under this and other projects undertaken by EEA and its collaborators.

Specific duties:

  • Organizes, coordinates and monitors research projects undertaken by EEA and other collaborating institutions;
  • Collects periodic reports from sub-award institutions, researchers, and other collaborators and consolidates them for submission to donors;
  • Prepares and submits progress and final reports in accordance to the requirements depicted in project documents and contracts;
  • Checks project activities and narrative and financial reports for their strict adherence and compliance to the rules and regulations of donors and the EEA;
  • Supports post-doc and pre-doc researchers in organizing project activities including field trips, data collection, networking and undertaking field M&E according to protocols laid out by EEA;
  • Supports the EEA research staff in organizing project activities;
  • Participates in organizing workshops, conferences, dialogue forums, and other events related to projects;
  • Establishes networks and partnerships with existing and new stakeholders of EEA;
  • Prepares and maintains database of research, researchers, consultants, projects, workshops, trainings, and other related information;
  • Organizes project outputs for possible publication as depicted in project documents;
  • Serves as a focal person for communicating with funding organizations, sub-awardees locally and internationally, and other stakeholders; and
  • Performs other activities assigned by the director.

Job Requirement

  • Education: PhD degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Natural Resource Economics, Environmental Economics, Industrial Economics, Financial Economics, Econometrics, and Other fields related to economics.
  • Experience: Three-years of work experience related to research and analysis and/or project coordination after PhD degree; experience on gender and women economic empowerment will be advantageous; at least one original research article published in a reputable journal; and fertile computer skills and use of statistical/econometric software packages (e.g. Stata, SPSS, EViews, R, or DASP).
  • Female applicants are encouraged.
