Job Description

OVERALL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Candidates must have extensive knowledge and experience of peace and security issues at regional, continental and multilateral levels. Applicants must be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the African Union’s peace and security architecture, and possess an extensive network of contacts relevant to the post’s demands.

JOB REQUIREMENT

Key Requirements (see advert on Embassy website for full list):

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, but preferably Masters level, in a field such as International Studies, Political Science, Peace/Conflict Studies, Conflict Resolution, Law, Human Rights.
  • Five years of progressively responsible management experience in areas relevant to the requirements of this position.
  • Proven track record in the effective management of highly skilled teams, financial resources and monitoring, evaluation & learning processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches and demonstrable practical experience within aMinimum Bachelor’s Degree, but preferably Masters level, in a field such as International Studies, Political Science, Peace/Conflict Studies, Conflict Resolution, Law, Human Rights.
  • relevant institution in peace and security; peacebuilding; peace keeping operations; conflict prevention, management and resolution; conflict early warning and response; or post conflict reconstruction.
  • Familiarity with key regional and multilateral policies, institutions and programmes relevant to peace and security.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of recent developments and approaches in international practice of peace and security, and related sectors including gender, humanitarian action and climate change.
  • Good understanding of the policies and approaches of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Ireland in Ethiopia.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. High proficiency in written and spoken French and/or Arabic is also desirable.
  • Excellent computer skills including on Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Legal entitlement to live and work in Ethiopia prior to recruitment.

Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for interview may be undertaken based on the Key Requirements above. Only successful candidates will be contacted. It is planned that interviews will be held by video-conference in early December 2020.
