Background
Afromontane Biodiversity Conservation in Ethiopia (ABCE) is currently seeking energetic self-motivated and able to work under stress qualified and competent applicant for the position of Livelihoods and Agriculture Officer.

General Position Summary
The Agriculture/Livelihood Project Officer will be responsible for the overall implementations of livelihoods activities in Guassa Community Conservation Area adjacent Kebeles along with the operations in Anaz Afroalpine ecosystem as per specific donors funded proposals. The incumbent will provide technical support to project beneficiaries under Mehal Meda field office in the set-up of livelihood and watershed management interventions in target Kebeles, ensure engagement of government partners, help in monitoring and improve project quality and relevance, deliver quality training for Honey Production and Apple Farming beneficiaries, and writing of periodic activity progress report. The position holder will monitor the context and implementation environment to ensure it remains conducive for livelihood and youth job creating assistance interventions for future expansion; and work with other sectors for better integration and synergies to maximize the impact for project participants. This position requires an individual who is accustomed to the pace of food security response programming and is motivated, flexible and highly responsive; the then reports to the ABCE Program Manager. He may also take administrative direction from the ABCE Program Manager and/ or Executive Director.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the identification effort of highly vulnerable families in the targeted areas and ensure the high quality of the data collected during the assessment.
- Liaise with local authorities and NGOs in the field to avoid duplication and exclusion/inclusion errors and guarantee the continuous cross check of project participant list.
- Ensure that gender, environment, and other important cross-cutting concerns are taken into account; ensure that assistance is delivered to highly vulnerable families with specific needs. e.g. elderly, pregnant women, children, and people with disabilities
- Support field based team and liaison with relevant government partner offices to identify, train, target households with the planned Livelihood and watershed management activities.
- Train and mentor beneficiaries in livelihoods and watershed management approaches to ensure successful project implementations
- Good relations maintained with Woreda and local government and other implementing partners in GCCA.
- Prepare Annual budgets and work-plans in coordination with Project Coordinator
- Prepare periodic program activity progress report and support the development of technical reports to donors, as necessary
- Ensure the capacity building of Livelihood and watershed management beneficiaries and partner staff through on-job training, technical guidance and coaching sessions
- Actively monitor projects through field visits, surveys and/or exchange of information with partners to assess progress, identify bottlenecks and take timely decisions to resolve issues
- Conduct frequent field visits to project sites to assess activities and ensure efficient use of resources
- Oversee the collection and timely reporting of data and statistics for all livelihood and watershed management in line with ABCE/PHE EC guidelines and according to donor requirements
- Ensure quality and timely field level implementation of project activities against set objectives, targets and work plans
- Outputs delivered as per KKS and BMZ project documents
- Activity reports and project monitoring and evaluation reports prepared for ABCE, Woreda and Zone Partners.
- Together with the M&E team, ensure capitalization of best practices and lessons learnt for projects in the area of operations
- Adapt projects according to monitoring and evaluation findings
- Maintaining and proper using of all ABCE-PHE EC equipment, vehicles and store asset.
- Assisting with building capacity of a local government and communities
- Maintaining good communication with the ABCE-PHE EC Project staff and partners.
- Assisting in ensuring that all project operations and activities are within ABCE, PHE EC and KKS Operational policies, Ethiopian law and agreements with, Amhara Region, Ethiopian Charities and Societies Agency and partner consortiums.
- Other activities delivered in time as per Program Coordinator requested.
Job Requirements
- MSc/BSc. Degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, Agricultural Extension, Livelihoods and other related field
- At least for MSc 5 years and for BSc 8 years of experience in implementations of agricultural livelihoods, mainly in beekeeping, highland fruit production, smart agriculture and watershed management is more advantageous
- Strong management skills with a good understanding of relevant cross-cultural issues
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and work independently and cooperatively with project and partners members
- Skilled in partnering with public/government entities, local NGOs, civil society organizations and the private sector, etc
- Fluency in written and oral English and knowledge of local languages (Amharic)
- Ability and willingness to frequently travel to field
- Previous experience working in NGOs is an asset
- Ability to prepare project activity and reports
