Purpose
Due to the increased commitment of traditional authorities and young people from the four provinces of Morogoro (Tanzania), Mulanje (Malawi), Luapula (Zambia) and Manicaland (Zimbabwe), the acceptance of child marriage in the project regions has declined however, the overall incidence of child marriage is unacceptably high in these countries. The project is a 3 year multi-country project, aimed at galvanizing the voices of young people and Civil Society to contribute towards the fight against child marriage.
It would be implemented in Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe with overall coordination by the Plan 18+ Center of Excellence based in Zambia. The PC will support the implementation of project activities at the continental level in close collaboration with other project teams in the four countries. The goal of the project is to contribute to gender equality and self-determination for women and girls by curbing child marriage and early pregnancies in Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Dimensions of Role
The Project Coordinator is responsible for planning, budgeting managing and monitoring the day to day oversight of the Plan AULO specific activities including direct implementation of activities by AULO and close collaboration of activity implementation within the four countries. . S/he will actively facilitate relationships among stakeholders and partners in the project. S/he oversees consultants hired to support the project, particularly under the AULO cluster.
S/he will work under the supervision of the Plan AULO Director with dotted lines to the 18+ Project Manager to ensure the project is timely implemented and monitored. The PC will be responsible for line managing the Communications Specialist
The PC will engage relevant continental bodies, networks and institutions to add their voices to end child marriage, as such, continental networking and collaboration is key to the success of this role

The Project Coordinator must ensure proactive communication to manage challenge and anticipate on any risk of delay and able to analyse complex problems and developments and propose and implement solutions to them.

Job Requirements
Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Behaviors Required
Educational Qualification, Experience and Knowledge
- Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Developing Studies or related fields, or a Bachelor’s Degree in the same fields with 7 years relevant work experience
- Experience in managing projects, including budget management and timely production of accurate narrative and financial reports is essential
- Very good knowledge and experience of Pan-African child rights/human rights instruments and mechanisms, the operating environment and political climate
- Very good understanding of, or experience in, implementing and monitoring child rights/human rights in a Pan Africa context, including very good knowledge and experience of work related to the, African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) and its mechanisms, African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (ACHPR) and its mechanism and other relevant human rights instruments and mechanisms
- Good planning and prioritization skills
- Demonstrated ability to network and liaise with CSO, Youth/girls led organizations, regional bodies
- Excellent written and spoken English, ability to speak French or any of the African Union official language will be an added advantage.
