DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB BRIEF

We are looking for an experienced DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR, COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS, with the holder being responsible for the development and implementation of the commercial strategy of the company. The candidate will handle the activities related to marketing and sales, and customer service to drive business growth and market share, along with the Export of the company together with some support giving units to the major commercial activities like fleet management and procurement. The role typically must combine technical knowledge of the relevant fields with strong business skills. The position is part of the organization’s strategic management team, that is responsible to drafting, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable the company to achieve its long-term objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversees the development of policies, procedures and strategic objectives for marketing and selling the products provided by Abbahawa Trading PLC.
  2. Analyze marketing programs and develop strategy and tactics to increase effectiveness and efficiency; Execute, review and analyze marketing surveys on current and new product concepts in order to recommend future development.
  3. Develop a working strategy to handle the different departments assigned to him/her with setting targets of performance.
  4. Manage the sales of the products in all the available markets by creating a strong media of distribution and handling the market in a very professional way.
  5. Handles the export operation of the company enhancing the current coffee export and diversifying to new exportable commodities. Seeks for new markets for the export and maintain the existing with a strong retention policy and strategy.
  6. Oversee the Import of raw materials and machine & machinery spare parts; procurement of export commodities, and other local procurements with the maximum possible professionalism and standard in following the existing rules and regulations of the company and the Government of Ethiopia.
  7. Manage the fleet of the company that are assigned to the support of the above major commercial activities, using the technology implemented for the control and dispatch, and creating new ways of management and control of resources.
  8. Manage the human resource working under the different departments with strong performance management techniques to enhance the skills and keeping them satisfied in their jobs.
  9. Design and implement business strategies, plans, and procedures and manuals for all the operations under her/him in line with Abbahawa Trading PLC
  10. DMD, Commercial is responsible for attracting and retaining customers and ensure development of a highly professional relationship to the various decision’s makers within the customer’s organization
  11. Identify and develop business opportunities locally and in the hinterland.
  12. Ensure an Excellent Resource Utilization in the areas of human, property and finance.
  13. Maintains relationships with partners and vendors as well as other stakeholders.
  14. Produce business ideas and revenue generation mechanisms to takes the lead in expansion activities of the company.
  15. Develop annual operating plan in consultation with the Managing Director
  16. Other Assignments as forwarded by the Managing Director.

Job Requirement

Abbahawa Trading PLC is in need to assign a very senior and highly responsible official. The DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR, COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS oversees the day-to-day business operations of the commercial activities. S/he is perceived to be very understanding of Abbahawa Trading PLC’s vision and mission, and take it as the highest responsibility that determine how these will be accomplished. The DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR, COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS will set interim goals to meet at specific intervals, and relays these goals to the Directors who are tasked with planning how they will direct their staff to meet these goals in their areas. Therefore, s/he will lead a group of managers who each play a significant role within the company.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

MA/MBA in Marketing, or Commerce, or Business Administration, or Management, or related. Also desired are additional trainings for executive development and leadership, international trade, resource management and related programs.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Seasoned professional with 15+ years of progressively responsible work experience. The experience is preferable if in an internationally engaged business of manufacturing and or product offering. Experience with similar size of the job of Deputy Managing Director, Commercial considering the previous company’s structure. The experience shall include at least 5 years at the top-level managerial roles. In addition, the candidate must have performance evidences in handling the responsibilities mentioned above.

The DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR, COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS is expected to possess the following knowledge and skill set:

  • Strategy: must excel at strategic thinking, be open to new perspectives and better ways to do things; and be creative, a visionary, and promote and manage innovation well

  • Decision-making skills: must have superior decision-making skills
  • Delegation: Must have the ability to delegate effectively
  • Communication: must possess executive-level communication and influencing skills with the ability to resolve issues, build consensus among groups of diverse internal/external stakeholders, and have proven skill in negotiating and mediating conflict
