PETCO Ethiopia Recycling Community Organization (PETCO Ethiopia) is a non for profit organization incorporated in 2019 to represent the Ethiopian PET plastic industry’s joint effort to self-regulate post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling. PETCO Ethiopia seeks to minimize the environmental impact of post-consumer PET on the Ethiopian landscape through growing the collection & recycling of PET bottles after consumer use; supporting existing & encourage new collection and recycling initiatives; and promoting a strong focus on public & consumer education & awareness programs. PETCO Ethiopia operates throughout Ethiopia and has its head office in Addis Ababa.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical, managerial support to the implementing partner for execution of project related to Plastic waste management covering the following main areas:
  • Plastic waste supply chain management facilitation – segregation, collection, transportation, aggregation and recycling
  • Guiding and drafting the plans and TORs for understanding city baseline and SOPs etc.
  • Understand the technologies and integrate them to implementation through the implementing partner
  • Setting up partnerships and managing relationships with waste collectors , NGO and host of other partners to develop plastic recycling across cities
  • Setting up governance to monitor operations and capacity building to various formal and informal sector players in the ecosystem
  • Responsible for preparation of project documents like TORs, project reports, etc. and presentation to various stakeholders
  • Liaison and Network with various stake holders, both government and nongovernment, during the execution of the projects.
  • Managing community recycling initiatives
  • Visiting Community based recycling centers, companies, schools and community organizations
  • Preparing reports, plans, publicity materials and displays.
  • Responsible for planning, monitoring and reporting as well as Knowledge management of the recycling project;
  • Perform any other tasks assigned from time to time by the senior management.

Job Requirement

Competencies and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environment, Waste Management, Social Sciences or relevant field
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in the areas of solid waste management, community development if possible, reference to plastic recycling etc.
  • Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the organization
  • Good communications and organizational & interpersonal skills;
  • Builds professional networks with institutional partners
  • Sought for advice by peers, subordinates, leaders
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and requirements, and multitask as needed;
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to integrate technology into various aspects of the project for planning, rollout and monitoring
  • Excellent knowledge of written Amharic and spoken English are essential.
  • Demonstrates integrity and ethical standards
