Job Description

  • Identifying all potential malting barley suppliers in Ethiopia
  • Identifying all potential malting barley import routes (via Djibouti) - most affordable ones
  • Build relationships with key suppliers
  • Identifying all the logistics (trucks, temporary storages if required, etc…) required to secure the malting barley quantities for the malting plant
  • Articulating the Boortmalt Ethiopia barley sourcing annual plan
  • Contracting with selected suppliers (both barley and logistics) - requiring legal inputs
  • Build a benchmarking cockpit on barley pricing vs Boortmalt pricing, including quality parameters
  • Daily overseeing the barley position of Boortmalt Ethiopia and act accordingly and within tolerated risk limits established by the Boortmalt Group. Liaise with the Group Barley Procurement and Risk Manager when required. Liaise with the Boortmalt Ethiopia CFO when required (balance sheet impacts).
  • Report in a timely manner and according to the Group standards the key parameters of the barley position
  • Engage with the Global Commercial Team and the Technical Team (Ethiopia) to align on barley specifications (several times per annum)
  • Apply for malting barley import permits (if required) and organise logistics with Boortmalt HQ. Liaise with Authorities
  • Deal with barley sourcing related problems and propose solutions to the business GM

Job Requirements

Degree in Food Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, and related

5 years  proven experience in areas like brewing, grainsourcing, supply chain management, crop management, farm management, grain quality management, malting, and related areas

Basic Microsoft office management is a plus

  • Strong communication, presentation and reporting skills
  • Project management skills
  • Strong analytical, critical and synthesis thinking
  • Ability to interpret large amount of data, to supply management and inventory control
  • Proficiency in ground logistics in complex environments
  • Willingness to work on the ground with all stakeholders of the barley supply chain in Ethiopia
