Role purpose

To lead the site safety, health & environmental function. Accountable for the safety, health & environmental management systems at the site with a focus on compliance, sustainability, improvement and staff engagement.  Responsible for site internal & external environmental operations, monitoring and reporting, incident response, community liaison and staff coaching & guidance.

Create and maintain a safe, productive work environment by:

• Role modelling a ”Safety First” approach by ensuring all employees, contractors and visitors understand and adhere to the Fonterra safety policies, rules and safe work practices. 
• Ensure H&S activities are consistent with the Fonterra Global Occupational Health and Safety Framework and good performance and leadership is recognised.
• Demand a high level of ethical behaviour and team participation in H&S activities including driving structured problem solving of incidents, Safety Observation Tours (SOTs), Safety Work Practices (SWP) observations, audits, hazard reporting and management, incident reporting and management and health and safety training.
• Demonstrate personal urgency and ability to make tough informed decisions to ensure elimination of harm. Follow up by consistently sharing information with your team while instilling an environment of mutual commitment and co-operation.
• Be open, empathetic and supportive towards all employees and encourage safe, open and robust conversations around healthy and safety matters.
• Drive Health, Safety and wellness culture. Ensure effective implementation of H&S initiatives at both group and local level. Work with Operations Manager to ensure H&S is effectively implemented and managed in the business.
• Taking full responsibility for all concerns of Health, safety & environmental practice of the site.
• Traing, coaching and assessing team members via Shop floor engagement program.
• Responsible to adhere to all safe work system instructions. Ensure processes are run in accordance with Fonterra’s SOPs and other standards.

Delivery

• Active member of the site management team, communicating on health, safety & environmental performance and influencing site business plans.
• Provide health, safety & environmental support and guidance to the site management team.
• Support, overview and report on the environmental management and monitoring programmes.
• .Ensure prompt notification, investigation and effective close-out of health, safety & environmental non-compliances.
• Support for NZMPE projects and compliance activities.
• Provide assistance and technical expertise to, and where necessary co-ordinate, emergency response plan
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Operations  Manager
• Manage external relationships with neighbours, regulatory authorities and interest groups. Grow the company/community partnership through environmental initiatives.
