The Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA) invites competent and qualified candidates to apply for the vacant post of Program Coordinator of which the detail requirements are mentioned here below.

Brief Highlight of EWLA: Established in 1995, the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA) is a non-governmental, non-partisan and non-for profit local organization mainly works for the promotion and advancement of women’s rights in the country. It strives towards ensuring gender equality and women empowerment through fighting Gender Based Violence and Violence against Women and Children. Since its establishment, EWLA has provided free legal aid service for needy women and children through its structures stretched from its head office in Addis Ababa to the branch offices in Amhara, Oromiya, Gambella, Benishangul Gumuz, Dire Dawa; and Southern regional states. Currently, EWLA has also a structure at grass-roots level in which there are strong Voluntary Committees in 54 Zones and Woredas all over the country.

Duties of the Employee:

  • Supervises the preparation, publication and distribution of newsletters, magazines, posters, flyers, brochures etc. at the Head Office and Branch Office levels.
  • Develops annual work plans and budgets of the Service.
  • Writing articles addressing issues pertaining to the work of EWLA and other women’s issues for the association’s bi-lingual magazine “Dimtsachen” and other government and non-governmental newspapers/magazines.
  • Transmitting radio & TV programs on women’s issues in close consultation with the immediate Supervisor.
  • Manage the Organizations website and social medias
  • Briefing guests on EWLA’s mission, objectives, activities and future plans whenever issues such as domestic violence, rape, abortion, early marriage etc.
  • Responding to criticism/misunderstandings regarding EWLA’s activities.
  • Participating in network building with religious organizations, community groups, women organizations etc. to effectively address issues such as genital mutilation, underage marriage, political participation of women etc.
  • Assisting in the preparation and dissemination of training materials on women’s right as and when needed.
  • Editing reports, articles or any other prepared texts that are formally released from EWLA.
  • Organizes the resource center and update data base.
  • Carrying out other duties assigned by the ED.

Duration of Employment: One Year Possibility of Extension  

Job Requirements

Qualification: BA/MA in Journalism/ International Relations/ Social Work/ or  Related field.

 Experience:  Minimum of 4 years’ experience for BA and 2 years for MA Excellent writing & communications skills.
