Job Description
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking Fortification Project Officer to support the capacity building of laboratories and quality monitoring of the fortification program in Ethiopia.
About GAIN
GAIN is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition.
About the role
As Fortification Project Officer you will support the capacity building project of laboratories as well as internal and external quality monitoring of the fortification program in Ethiopia. Role specifics include;
Coordinate the implementation of quality system laboratories and internal quality system in wheat and oil processing factories.
Onsite support and follow up on the capacity development process of selected laboratories and generate periodic status report.
Conduct reviews of the current internal and external quality systems in the wheat, oil and Iodized salt processing industry and provide technical support to build the capacity of stakeholders in industry, regulatory, and certification bodies.
Support in organising different workshop and training programs.
To travel to the field to deliver technical assistance and to monitor progress.
This role will be based in Addis Ababa and is offered on a fixed term contract basis until June 2021.
Job Requirements
About you
You will have great analytical ability, along with strong project management, negotiation and advocacy skills. You will need to be a self-starter and be able to think independently to solve problems with creativity.
Practical working experience in a laboratory is essential, especially in areas of quality assurance and quality management systems. You should also have experience of delivering training both formally and on-the-job through mentoring or workshops.
A BSc in chemistry or equivalent is required for this position.
