Job Description
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an international, humanitarian, non-profit, non-governmental organization which provides assistance, protection and durable solutions to refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide. NRC is working in Ethiopia in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and The Administration for Refugees and Returnee Affairs ARRA) to implement provision of access to Shelter, food security, WASH and quality education in Ethiopia for Somali, Eritrean, and Sudanese refugees as well as host communities around the refugee camps in Dolo Ado, Shire, Gambella and Asosa districts.
NRC is currently implementing a joint Norwegian Resilience Building program (JRBP) in Dollo and Dollo Baay woreda of Somali region. This a 3 years’ program which is an integrated and demand driven Project intended to enhance the resilience and local capacity of host dry land farmers and IDP’s in adapting to climate change and improve livelihoods through adoption and utilization of integrated community-based interventions and institutions.
The project aims to the improve the resilience of the community by promoting self-managed community institution to further strengthen their livelihoods. The joint resilience project aims to integrate the targeted communities with high value chains and market and for improved income, employment opportunities and ability to respond to market demand and opportunities.
To fulfill these objectives, NRC will focus on development of value chain by making initiatives directly in support of value chain development.
Purpose of the work
The assignment purpose is to carry out a comprehensive assessment and perform an indepth analysis in the project areas which offers the opportunity to asses and identify potential value chains and linkages in the pastoral, riverine, agricultural and agro-based sector to determine which income generating activities (IGA) are best suited to substitute negative copying mechanism- production and trade.
