Introduction

Solidaridad is an international civil society organization with more than 50 years of global experience in facilitating the development of socially responsible, ecologically sound and profitable supply chains. Solidaridad works across 12 supply chains and operates through 10 regional offices on 5 continents. Solidaridad is legally established in Ethiopia under Charities Act (registration number 3531).

The purpose of this TOR is that solidaridad support 24 factories in Better Mill initiative (BMI) & Bottom Up programs. The program aims to have Sustainable and inclusive growth of the Ethiopian textile sector .The program support to ensure the textile factories have sustainable and better working condition, jobs and production.

The organization wants to give Soft skill training by external body for the selected employees of factories.

Training needed

The training we need will enable us to improve social and interpersonal skills that enable them to cope with the demands of everyday life and work life.

 We are therefore seeking to appoint a service provider who would be able to train the selected maximum of 30 employee per factory at a time and a maximum of 300 employees of the project beneficiary factories during the contract at the highest quality.

 Overall objective of the Life/soft skills training

To identify and train workers specially(more than 90% young  women at the operational level of production) in comprehensive employable skills with increased awareness and understanding about industry behaviour so that they are better prepared to secure jobs in manufacturing companies’ with a vision of growing career paths that eventually lead to better returns and  women empowerment.  

Specific Objectives

  • Enhance awareness level of factory workers specially women at operational level on basic life /soft skills
  • Assist and facilitate trainees at the end of the training to develop action plan for improvement
  • Deliver a  narrative report of the training  as a learning agenda

 Major expected deliverables.

Once this training has taken, our expectation would be that these trainees to be high productive, to build self-confidence, encourage critical thinking, foster independence and help people to communicate more effectively

 Awareness raising of workers specially women in textile and garment factories on the following major topics

  • Introduction to the garment sector including industrial work culture;
  • Factory rules and procedures
  • Security procedures
  • Dress code
  • Introduction to relevant labour law and workers’ rights and responsibilities(ILO conventions on women workers rights)
  • Gender
  • Women empowerment ,and sexual harassment
  • Communication and reporting structures
  • Motivation
  • Time management; (absentissem and turnover) 
  • Leadership skills
  • Health and safety
  • Personal hygiene
  • Team work and problem solving skills
  • Promoting a positive attitude at work
  • Wage procedures
  • Ways of giving & receiving feedback
  • Introduction investment
  • Saving and personal financial management and
  • Family planning

In addition the service provider is expected to produce a training manual and distribute for each participants to use it as reference.

Methodology

The consultant is expected to design and integrate various training methodologies that are used in order to promote positive interactive learning, maintain interest and initiate team building. These include:

  • Participatory and interactive training techniques.
  • Extensive use of pictorial  training materials
  • Use of case studies and practical examples
  • Role plays, songs and games

Location: - The 24 factories are located in Addis Ababa, Mojo, Bishoftu, Kombolcha, Bahirdar, Mekelle and Adwa. The training will be given over the listed cities.

  Duration:   Three days (3 days) (Renewable)

Consultancy

  • Proven experience on Life/ soft skills Training

 Educational background

  • Preferably degree holder in sociologist gender, economics, entrepreneurship, management, psychology, business administration or related social science field  
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in training, coaching, supervising and managing garment operators’, hand on experience working with poor women
  • Background of working with garment manufacturers
  • Strong facilitation and analytical skill 

 Essential

  •  Proven experience in given training specially for  textile factories supply chains
  • Knowledge of local culture and language( special Amharic, Oromia & Tigrigna)
  • Able to deliver to tight deadlines
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
  • Knowledge of developing training manuals
  • Has registration licence giving occupational and health training from the government body.
  • Has VAT registration licence

 Specific Skills  

  • Gender sensitive and effective in  linking the training with the  industry context
  • Strong facilitation and coordination skills.
  • Previous experience on the subject area is a plus

 Scope of the training

  • Training to be conducted in factories premises
  • Training will consist of minimum 30 people
  • Training will be over 3 days
  • Accommodation and subsistence to be provided by the organization
  • Training materials to be provided by the service provider
  • Should have theoretical and practical training

Time frame:

To be agreed with the consultant with organization.

The contract might continue for the next year at the same time.

In-addition to the 300 trainees mentioned above, you are also required to train 30 ToT for 5 days  in one round for the purpose of follow up & effectiveness after the training.
